I just got a new pc10 board after mine blew out and the Start button on the new board will not register. The wiring and button itself are good. Any ideas on why it will not let me start a game? It this a simple fix, or should I return the new board? Thanks, Mark

Does anyone know where to find the PC-10 light bulb socket and bulbs for the coin door buttons?
thanks for your help,
greg
Robert Rose:
you can find them at an electrical supply...look up lamp supply or elecrtrical supply and bring the bulb with you they can match it up...thats what i did
|
Boingo:
Alternatively, you can try using LEDs instead of light bulbs.

Hello all-
I was hoping someone might be able to help me or at least point me in a good direction.
I found a VS dualsystem which came with Super Mario Bros. and Excitebike. Excitebike works find but SMB is having display issues (completely scrambled) where controls and audio work. Monitor appears to be fine.
Anyone ever run into a VS issue like this?

Does anyone know where I could pick up a new or used working gun for my playchoice 10. I can't get mine to register on the screen. You can hear it fire but thats about it. Please help.
Matt C.:
Contact Robert Rose. See post 269. He's the resident expert.

I just purchased a lot of 6 Nintendo guns on ebay. They are not in my possession yet, and I am unable to test them, because my Nintendo Vs Is still a Tetris machine, but I will keep you in mind once I get them and be willing to sell one or two of them, since I was really only looking for one, and not six. (Chortle)
|
Robert Rose:
...dont know why matt says im an expert on guns but whatever. I got one from matt that didnt work so i found some wiring diagrams online and attempted to wire in a NES zapper pcb into the gun matt gave me since it was missing...it didnt work...after thinking of every i broke down and bought the first i saw on ebay at 75.00 w ship. your situation is strange. I would say either your screen is dirty or the gun lense is dirty on IR led inside it is dirty. Otherwise i know one of the wires that go to the pcb board inside does register the "hits" so i would check and make sure all the wires have good connections...it could also be the gun wiring inside the unit, if you have the manual it has a wiring diagram for the gun circuit on the playchoice pcb board, id check that too. you might be able to attach a multimeter to the port the gun connects to inside the unit and touch the "hit" wire and the grounded chassis and see if you get a voltage...do it while the unit is on and also see if that registers a hit....im just thinking out loud here they are probably long shots

I'm looking for a Control Panel overlay for my Playchoice 10 cab. I plan on completely restoring mine in the next couple months and this is one of the first things I could do with it. I'd love a NOS overlay but was also wondering if anyone has purchased one of the CPO's that arcadeoverlays.com sells? Any opinions on them? I'm not 100% concerned about my PC-10 being completely authentic, I just want it to look good.
ben:
Oh, and it's a dual monitor cab. Thanks
|
Matt C.:
PM'd you at KLOV
|
Ben:
Matt's CPO didn't work out so I'm still looking if anyone has one? Or has anyone purchased one of the arcadeoverlays.com CPO's?

I just found this site! I didn't search the posts yet for the question I'm about to ask, sorry if it's been asked a million times already. I don't know much about electonics but I do love my Playchoice 10. I recently moved and my machine was banged around a little bit. It's now broken. It will power on and bring up the main screen but none of the buttons work... is this an easy fix?
Boingo:
I do not know much about the PC10, but have you checked the connections for the harnesses to make sure they didn't get pulled out? Maybe by making sure nothing is loose will fix the problem.

Regarding post 287: I am 93.2% sure that my problem is that I need a new main board. I have a dual-monitor PC-10, and there are currently no main boards for a dual-monitor PC-10 on Ebay. Is there anywhere else I can buy one? Is it possible to buy them new? Thanks in advance and thanks for all the help you've all given me so far. I know I've been needy, and I apologize.
Ben:
I'd throw up a request in the wanted section on the KLOV.com boards. They do not make these new anymore but you could probably find a used one for a reasonable price.
|
Robert Rose:
just wait a few weeks one will show up on ebay

Let me start by saying this site is great and has tons of great info in it. I bought a playchoice 10 a year ago and everything works great except the gun. Which upsets my kids because of course the want to play the gun games. So I was hoping somebody could help me. I'm not real great with electronics but I'll tell you as much as I can. When you shoot the gun you can hear it fire but, thats about it. It doesn't really register on the screen. I Tried rewiring it to see if it was the conn. but it didn't help. My unit has the big red gun mounted to it. Thanks, jim

I have the following for trade
Golf

I will also buy these games if someone has them for sale. I have a cpo for the machine on the way but I am looking for a pair for PC10 sideart.
Let me know.
Matt C.:

Since the last time I posted, I have scored big.
For my Nintendo Vs Dualsystem MDS-TBL-US, I have now obtained a harness to replace the wrecked old harness (cut up and rewired to allow a JAMMA Tetris board to run on the system), as well as two "new" cash boxes ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANrbKmM28yc), a motherboard and a set of EPROMS.
The harness is a Unisystem harness. I am hoping this harness is the same as the Dualsystem harness, with the only exception being the absence of the connections for the player 3 and player 4 controls.
Any confirmation for this?
I am hoping these items will allow me to restore my red tent back into a working Vs system.

I have a problem with my Playchoice 10. It is related to a problem I posted months ago, if anyone remembers. Anyway, I've been getting the message "Wait 10 sec." at random times in the middle of games. When you see this message, the system restarts, so I lose wherever I was in whatever game I was playing. When this first happened, I tried moving PCBs around and making sure none of them were touching each other (which I hear could potentially cause a short). That fixed the problem for a few weeks. When it happened again, I then tried putting only five games in the system. That fixed it for about another week and then it started to happen again today. I tried playing with only one game in the system. This fixed the problem for about an hour (It may not have actually fixed the problem, maybe turning the system on and off was what caused it to work for an hour). What could be the problem? Obviously, it seems to be a short, but where and how can I check? What are the odds that the main board has gone bad? Thanks.
haogden:
Another detail that may be relevant:
I always unplug the system, I never flip the switch on the back. Could that be part of the problem?
|
Ben:
I always unplug mine too instead of using the switch and have never had a problem. Like I said before I know I've read something about this... I just need to find it.
|
Ben:
Everything I've read says it's probably a board issue in which case you'd need to pick up a new main board. :( Two things I would try though...
1) Check the voltages coming out of the power supply and going to the board. If the board is underpowered it might work for a bit but will eventually reset... over and over and over. I don't know the exact voltages to check right off hand but I assume you could grab one of the manuals off of this site to verify them.
2) Unplug one of the lines from the reset button. Apparently this seems to short out once in awhile in which case you may need a new button. Unplug its line and play for awhile to see if it still resets.
|
haogden:
Thanks, Ben. I'll try all that let you know if it works. I really appreciate it.

ok....i just recently stumbled apon a vs. super mario bros machine and i am wondering if ther is any way to change the machine to play a playchoice smb3 pcb...i am a normal guy dont no much at all bout all this but i love smb3 HELP!!!!!
Matt C.:
Dylan........Welcome. It requires changing your control panel to a Playchoice one, getting a Playchoice motherboard, and a PC-10 single monitor wiring harness. Then you will be able to play Playchoice games! The current Unisystem motherboard, is not compatible with Playchoice items. The Unisystem uses unique roms or "daughter" boards. The Playchoice has a unique motherboard that holds up to 10 pcbs. Use Ebay to score what you need. Hope this helps.

ive got a few nintendo guns all of which were untested when i got them from the provider and none of them work. is there some tips you can give me to check everything. i see there is the swivel peice which i dont quite understand but the logic board in the gun seems alright? im clueless on these things and would like to be able to play...although i dont have it yet gumshoe.
Robert Rose:
if it were me id take apart the guns and check the trigger pieces. Disconnect them from the gun. the trigger should have two wires(its just a switch that contacts the two wires together to complete the circuit and make the gun fire.) Use a multimeter and set it to Ohms. touch each multimeter terminal to each wire ...doesnt matter wich one. It shouldnt read anything, but when you pull the trigger it should get an ohm reading.....hold the trigger down to do it. If you get a reading the trigger is fine and the problem is with the pcb in the gun. i would use a multimeter that makes a tone when ohms are detedted that way you know its getting a connection(continuity) and you wont have to look for a read out.
|
GMZombie:
yea the triggers work as i can see a flash on the screen but the crosshairs never come on the screen
|
Robert Rose:
if you get a flash then your gun works.....dont know of any game for the pc10 that has crosshairs. if its not registering kills...just registers that the gun fired(hence the flash) then id try holding the gun right up to the screen. If that doesnt work try shooting right up against the screen without the smoked glass. if that doesnt work then im out of ideas...buy a new gun, sell yours for parts
|
Matt C.:
I'm not sure if you are talking Unisystem or PC-10. If you have a Unisystem (Vs. Hogan's Alley etc.) you may have to play with the colors on the monitor. BY colors I mean the green, blue, red gain controls. I had a Vs Duck Hunt that did as you decribed. It had to do with the color scheme being off. My Vs. Hogan's Alley worked fine. Gumshoe was another game that the scheme was very sensitive. Had to be dead on. Hope this helps.

I have general questions about the PlayChoice 10. How many of them were sold? During what years were they sold? It would also be cool to know how many copies of each game were made. Where can you find information like this?
haogden:
And yes, I've searched Google, of course.
|
Matt C.:
Do a search in Wikipedia. It's pretty accurate. Tells the manufacturer and the year made
|
Matt C.:
Pete has an accurate list under PC Game List. But i understand about wanting to know release dates.

Yeah, I was mainly looking for the number sold. Just interested. Thanks, though.

Well.........Thanks to Brandon's listing, I was able to win the Mario's Open Golf auction and sell my RC Pro AM. I think it was a win-win, for all involved.
I'm looking to buy Rescue Rangers. It is the last PC-10 pcb, I'm looking to score. It would complete the collection, as far as my most wanted goes. With 3 kids, I'd have to put the collecting on hold! Please let me know. I'd be willing to trade Castlevania for it. Thanks.
